ANNUAL REVIEW IN PICTURES
2016 is history. Gratefully, we look back on a busy but successful year.
January: What a start into the year! Due to the cold weather, our Bird of Prey Sanctuary Berg am Irchel had high-season right at the beginning. Most of the new patients were common buzzards.
February: Success in Sumatra! Palm oil firm Kallista-Allam is ultimately condemned as it carried out illegal clearing. PanEco’s contribution was crucial to achieve this important verdict.
March: Season opening in the Thurauen Nature Centre. In bright sunshine you can feel the first spring awakening.
April: Launch of our orangutan video. There is no limit when it comes to creativity in our office. The result is an animated film which perfectly explains our work in Sumatra.
May: 60 years Bird of Prey Sanctuary Berg am Irchel. On a wet and cool May day the long-standing existence of the station is celebrated. With Veronika von Stockar everything began!
June: PanEco resigns its membership at the “Rountable on Sustainable Palm Oil” RSPO! We find initiatives for sustainable palm oil cultivation important but condemn the lack of response to the repeated abuse of individual members of the RSPO.
July: The last building stage in the Thurauen has started. One more year until the “flood protection and meadow landscape Thurmündung” project is completed.
August: 20 years PanEco. On a hot summer day the anniversary is celebrated with information stands as well as food and drink.
September: Veterinarians-to-be visit us. One afternoon, the students of the university were able to find practical tips on medical bird care.
October: Wrench in the Nature Centre. The main season is coming to an end and we have to say good-bye to the season’s staff.
November: Change of management in the “Rübis & Stübis” restaurant. PanEco decides to lease the restaurant to the newly founded cooperative Rübis & Stübis and focus on its core competencies.
