Kick-off to our anniversary year

We are celebrating PanEco’s 30th anniversary with a series of events, a Thurauen photo competition and other attractions.

The theme of our anniversary year is: ‘to protect, strengthen and experience nature’. Thirty years ago, biologist and current Chair of the Board of Trustees Regina Frey founded the PanEco Foundation, based in Berg am Irchel. Even back then, PanEco’s aim was to work with the public to protect, strengthen and experience nature – in Indonesia and in Switzerland. Fifteen years ago, PanEco established the Thurauen Nature Centre in the Zurich Weinland, which is also celebrating its anniversary this year. We want to mark the occasion through a series of small, intimate events which highlight our work in nature conservation. The anniversary programme invites you on discovery tours of the Nature Centre and an evening walk in the Thurauen, offers insights into the work of the ranger service and shows the bird of prey sanctuary from a different perspective. This autumn, as part of the foundation’s anniversary celebrations, a panel discussion entitled ‘30 Years of Orangutan Conservation’ will take place in Winterthur, focusing on past successes and future challenges in Indonesia.

At this anniversary event, you can experience springtime on a guided walk with our team of rangers along the paths around the idyllic Husemerseen lakes.
During the summer holidays, the PanEco team will be reading stories underneath a tree. The stories are from our favourite picture books, in which animals have exciting adventures in the wild.

Thurauen photo competition

The Thurauen Nature Centre is celebrating its 15th anniversary and the beauty and diversity of the renaturalised Thurauen floodplain conservation area with a photo competition in the categories ‘dynamic floodplain’, ‘lively Thurauen’, ‘local recreation’ and ‘youth’. Entry is easy and open to everyone. A panel of experts will select the winning photos. Partners of the Thurauen photo competition are Natura Helvetica and the Weinland Regional Development Agency.

Everyone is welcome to take part: we’re celebrating the beauty and diversity of the Thurauen with a photo competition.
