Rainforest protection
In the Jantho Nature Reserve in the Indonesian province of Aceh, we operate patrols as part of a comprehensive conservation programme to protect the habitat of the orangutans we have released into the wild. The Jantho rangers in these patrols are young people from the surrounding villages who want to help to preserve this precious ecosystem. One of them is Wen Rizky Rianda.

Orangutan protection
In the year following the landslides at our Quarantine and Rehabilitation Centre in Sumatra, we had to relocate the activities of the Rainforest School for young orangutans elsewhere. Since early 2026, the young orangutans – such as Cemara, Brenda and Diego – have finally been enjoying training in the trees at the school again.
Our programmes
With the SOCP, we are committed to holistic orangutan and rainforest conservation in Sumatra.
The Thurauen Nature Centre is located at the gateway to the largest floodplain conservation area in the region and is dedicated to environmental education.
The Bird of Prey Sanctuary cares for injured birds of prey and owls and carries out environmental education.
