Travel educates – and can also make a valuable contribution to sustainable development. PanEco supports the development of socially and environmentally acceptable tourism in Indonesia.
Ecotourism always takes four aspects into account: nature conservation, environmental education, cooperation with the local population and the personal responsibility of the travellers. We therefore work according to the following principles:
- Environmental management (e.g. wastewater purification, recycling, use of local products, etc.) is an integral part of ecotourism projects.
- Tourism is not in conflict with the needs of the local population.
- The influence on the natural environment is kept as low as possible.
- Travellers have to deal with people and nature respectfully.
We support ecotourism projects as an instrument of sustainable development in peripheral regions with a high ecological value. The main aim of such projects is to create an alternative source of income for the local population.
However, genuine interest of travellers also increases the appreciation of people for «their» nature and encourages mutual understanding between different cultures. Part of the revenue also goes directly to local nature conservation projects.
